Byrdie | Homepage Redesign

Role: Product + Visual Designer

THE PROBLEM

Post acquisition, we inherited Byrdie.com with its minimal, taxonomy-based structure. We were tasked with a redesign that would establish byrdie as an accessible and aspirational beauty media brand.

THE CONSTRAINTS

Design and elevated homepage with Byrdie voice and mission, showcasing the following:

  • Mission statement and stats

  • Byrdie Review Board

  • Editorial personalities

  • Ingredient showcase

  • Rotating product picker

  • Exclusive interviews

  • News

  • An organized taxonomy section where a user could find the most up to date, topic-specific stories

THE SOLUTION

I partnered with the design director to completely rethink the existing design and introduced a modular site with defined sections that would champion each topic in a special visual way. As visual design lead, I co-created each of the modules to introduce new functionality to the site, as well as opportunities for visual flourishes. The site now evokes so much more of the Byrdie voice and personality, while still highlighting the areas that give Byrdie its authority in the beauty space.
